A negative mind does not only change our attitude, it also affects our mind. According to research, negative attitudes and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness can create chronic stress, which upsets the body's hormone balance, depletes the brain chemicals required for happiness, and damages the immune system. Therefore, chronic stress can deplete your lifespan.
This article from the Huffpost continues on that same thought process.
"A basic emotion such as fear can be described as an abstract feeling or as a tangible molecule of the hormone adrenaline," writes Deepak Chopra in Ageless Body, Timeless Mind. "Without the feeling there is no hormone; without the hormone there is no feeling ... The revolution we call mind-body medicine was based on this simple discovery: wherever thought goes, a chemical goes with it."
If we ignore the role our thoughts and feelings have, we are ignoring the role they play. And it may be the one that most needs to get fixed.
Just getting outdoors or going for a walk can boost our spirits and change our attitude to one of gratitude. As well as mindful practices like meditation can teach us to breathe and be in the moment instead of caught in a current of thoughts. Slowing down reminds me of all the good that is in my life, bringing positive memories into a turbulent day.
