10 steps towards gratitude - Week ten

September 4, 2016

Among the things you can give and still keep are your word, a smile and a grateful heart

Week ten (August 28 - September 3)

Each day I awaken with a new sense of gratitude when I notice the gifts that abundance delivers. A night at the camper revitalizes my love for nature, well except for those spiders, and I easily create lists of love. The simple moments of having my family together around a fire remind me of those blessings.

Gratitude kindles our perception to the details, the morning sunrise, a flowers bloom, even the simple changes in our daily lives can weave into the hope of gratitude. Discovering gratitude can ease depression by reminding me of the joy that still exists, especially during the rough spots. Gratitude bolsters our appreciation in what we have instead of a constant longing for more.

Here are a few ways to introduce a practice of gratitude in your day:

  1. Create a specific time of day where you acknowledge gratitude by writing the things you are grateful for or keep a gratitude journal. If managing a notebook is not you, there are many apps that make practicing gratitude easy with your smartphone. Check out apps like Gratitude journal for iPhone.
  2. Observation of the intricate details delivers gratitude when we pause to notice. Describing the orange of the sunrise, the delight of a shooting star, or the curtain of sunlight filtering through the trees provokes an awakening of boundless simple pleasures.
  3. Share a grateful attitude among those around you with a thoughtful gesture, a smile or kind word. This simple act can lift you as well as others when you notice the nudge of opportunity.
  4. Admitting when a negative situation could be worse can often bring a new perspective and gratitude in the lesson.
  5. Savoring the joy filled moments in life creates a pattern to recognize joys power. Those who savor gratitude discover the happiness that is already with them and cherish the gifts of another day on earth.
  6. Life can change in a moment, recognizing the positives will help form a clear outlook as life evolves. Recognizing how fleeting a moment is prompts you to be present with your gratitude.
  7. Counting your blessings is genuinely powerful when we confirm the things that presently fill our lives as well as the things that do not. From a master of gratitude "Even in darkness, it is possible to create light." Elie Wiesel
  8. Start your day with a meditation of gratitude or reading inspirational words to ignite the positive feelings and attract a grateful heart.
  9. Acknowledge the power in your body after completing a task and know gratitude. Gratitude appears within each step to our strengths.
  10. Learning to say thank you to the people in our life and notice the importance of their presence. Don't let the  light they bring to your life wither unrecognized. So often those two words are left as unspoken regret, say thank you to the people in your life.

From the list...

List 5 things you like about you:

  1. My hair
  2. Strong body
  3. Compassion towards others
  4. Honesty
  5. Story telling abilities
