In the early part of 2020 I started doing yoga and could not believe how much better my body felt. Before I started practicing, I could not remember a time when my right hip did not hurt. Once I decided to try yoga more consistently, I embarked on a 100 day at home challenge with Peloton yoga. Most days I enjoyed creating space for yoga. Yet with any new habit, some days it was a chore and I was thankful when I finished.
In that 100 days I could not believe the strength and balance I uncovered, feeling noticeably better. Had I taken the advice offered by many in the past to try yoga I would have come upon this revelation years ago. Weeks into this new practice I realized the pain in my hip had vanished.
However, once I reached that 100-day goal I decided to stop for a few weeks, already forgetting the power of yoga’s reversal to my pain. And like clockwork, the soreness in my hip returned. Because of my 100-day practice, I now truly understood the support my daily yoga habit provided and set a date to begin again.
This time the journey to those pain free days took longer, deciding to start over with beginner classes. Paying attention to notice the effects of my practice while seeking knowledge of each individual pose. Eventually balance returned both physically and mentally.
Completing that first 100 day challenge with yoga taught me countless lessons as well as the importance of trying new things. Yoga continues to be a practice I am growing with, and another reminder of how the steps we take today are the gift to our future selves.
