Week 4: Immersion and Devotion

We are linked in our humanity the way the earth holds a tree, so that tree can hold a nest, so that nest can hold a bird, so that bird can drop a seed that will in time give birth to the next tree.

I live in this constant state of wonder. With it comes a persistent urge to learn. If I decide to grow flowers, I must learn all I can about the process, if I am learning to draw, I seek further instruction. Each aspiration brings with it a desire to know more. To learn we need the time/immersion, and the devotion /attention, to absorb the knowledge.

Like each new year, I begin with a growth mindset. There are always things to improve, ways to learn, places to discover and creative ways to document it all. With so many imaginative paths to follow, it becomes difficult to delegate where time is best spent. With limited hours in a day, and so much to create and learn, I must allocate a specific time with each skill. This devotion to what fulfills me requires time management.

Have you ever noticed, when in that immersed state, hours could go by before we look up. The days and weeks slip by, yet I feel I’ve just begun. It is when we truly love what we are doing that we can feel immersed with devotion, and in that space is where I want to focus my time.
