A blizzard comes in with such furry and covers our streets causing accident and more, with our Ohio weather we can have 3 seasons in one day and your life can change in an instant. Then the sun comes out and melts all that snow away and we are left to remember the mess it caused but with no confirmation.
Isn't that how things happen in your life, those horrific, life changing things. Its like life is just moving along daily and then suddenly something stops it and completely changes your course.
Over the past few years I feel like I've been on a long winding road with so many forks I'm not sure when or where to turn. Just when I seem to get a grip on my current situation something else arrives to shake things up again?
Recently I started reading about meditation as a way to reduce stress and assist in dealing with life's daily weight. A very interesting take on things since many times my first thought is to slip into a puddle on the floor.
We all have that inner voice constantly chattering to us throughout each day. Whether she is a fairy princess promising a fairytale life or that troll under the bridge telling you what you should or should not have done, it is always present, second guessing or suggesting what others are thinking of you and consistantly adding uncertainty to who we are. Since so much of our thoughts are either dipping into our past or jumping forward to the future, how often are we living in the present?
Learning to silence that chatter and live in the moment is the part of meditation that most intrigues me. Understanding the ego, which is never satisfied and has us constantly comparing ourselves to others. It thrives on drama, keeping our old resentments and grievences alive through compulsive thought. A favorite quote from 10% Happier by Dan Harris "When you have one foot in the future and the other in the past, you piss on the present"
And so as I continue to learn, I will continue to share this new mindfulness way...
