The Discovery of Wings

The Discovery of Wings

She did not want to be exposed, always hidden in the distance, doing her best to disappear into the scene. Her strategy was simple; she needed to unravel what remained before she would reveal herself to others, prolonging this unearthing as she lingered veiled amidst the crowds.

Life had untied her neatly wrapped bows with a sequence of heartaches, extinguishing any desire to persevere as it heaved her into the cold.  Death stormed through her life smothering the light that once radiated, now only labored breaths of anguish existed as each tragedy broke her resolve when she dared to stand.

With the promise of time, compassion began unfolding amidst the sadness as the tangled scenery slowly shifted. Change had begun, undeniably obscure, but within her where it needed to occur, a blaze of light began to shine, guiding her course as it allowed the radiance back in.

She was ready to release all the sadness and insecurities, pushing away all the broken pieces within her to let love in. Prepared to surrender the hefty baggage she had accumulated, while revealing the damage within, she steadied her permission.

At first with a nudge, she pushed it out, warily waiting for what would return? All the scars and ugly pieces, the flaws so closely veiled, with uncertainty gripping her, she let it all go, quietly clasping her hands while awaiting the signs of hope.

Sitting alone she admired her journey, recognizing all the difficulty that had concealed her path. With eyes closed she gathered all the sweet memories, like a soft blanket, wrapping herself within them, immersed in the joy they conveyed, while mindful of the purest forms of love in her life.

The magic continued building within, filling her heart with hope and courage and all the joy she desired. Prompting the love and gratitude that remained in her life to fill her with the purpose and resolve she needed to move forward, and then briefly, she caught sight of her wings.

She did not surrender this revelation to anyone; holding her secret near her heart, although doubting their existence and certain she had only imagined them, until in the distance, a plume caught her view.

Surrendering to the sadness presented her with the gifts of authenticity, reckoning the new life surrounding her as she readied for change to appear, while finally accepting the privilege to seize the magic within her.

Collecting all the lingering sorrows, she washed them down the drain, craving only the beloved pieces to honor her spirit. Then she secured all the mistaken words and self-doubt to thrust out the window, and finally while bagging up the negative self-chatter, she set it at the curb.

Removing the burdens from her heart, and relinquishing the joy from within, she began to manifest the missing devotion. Purging the heartache and uninvited disappointments, while burrowing into the softness that faith had brought her, she was ready to expose all her fears and claim all her joys.

The shift had arrived, surrounding her with light and filling her heart, as peace embraced her movement. It was time, she thought, and she readied to begin. This time when she felt the tug once more, she opened her eyes and allowed the light in.

There was no mist or burst of light, nor music or bells humming; there was only the knowing that the promise of love was burning brightly by her side, ready for her to claim, realizing it was there all along.

Emerging within the acceptance of her flaws and imperfections, the pride of her journey to discovery, with each grueling step in becoming whole, this culmination of grief, sadness, joy, love and hope had forged her into someone new, finally adorning a smile when she saw her reflection.

Unsure of the intentions, she allowed the enlightenment in, knowing a magical journey was unfolding before her, she had to be willing to soar…

Pleased with her potential, instead of opening a door to leave, she approached the window and leaped. Amid the star lit night she was finally certain that her wings had always been there, they just needed her faith to finally shine.
